What Is Your Used Tech Worth in Bali? The 2026 Resale Grid

iPhone at -20%, Galaxy S at -66%, a MacBook M1 that nearly matches new: the July 2026 resale grid, the official duties, and how to set your own price.

Recorded across the Indonesian market in July 2026: a used iPhone 15 128 GB changes hands at Rp 9–10 million, against Rp 12,499,000 new — a discount of 20% to 28%. A Galaxy S22, by contrast, has shed two thirds of its launch price (≈ -66%) in four and a half years. And a used MacBook Air M1 trades at Rp 6–9 million, the top of that range brushing up against the price of one still sitting new on the shelf. The backdrop favours sellers: the global RAM crisis pushed new MacBooks up by Rp 2.75 to 9.5 million in July 2026, Sony raised the PS5 by Rp 1.7 to 1.8 million on 1 May, and a rupiah down at Rp 18,073 to the dollar (31 July 2026) makes every imported product dearer — which mechanically revalues recent second-hand kit. Three variables then set the real price in Bali: a registered IMEI, territorial warranty and battery health. Resale grid, official duties, and the method for pricing your own gear: here are the numbers.

Why is summer 2026 a good time to sell?

Three price movements, all documented, work in the seller's favour.

New kit is spiking. On the Apple side, the Indonesian tech press recorded increases on 7 July 2026 running from +Rp 2.75 million at the entry level to +Rp 9.5 million on the priciest MacBook Pro models, a direct consequence of the global RAM crisis — not a single MacBook in the current line-up is left under Rp 10 million in Indonesia (the one exception being the older Air M1, still shifted new by the chains — more on that below). To gauge how fast this moved: in January 2026, the 14-inch MacBook Pro still started at Rp 27,499,000 at iBox. Six months later, that price list was history. On the console side, Sony raised its Indonesian prices on 1 May 2026, citing "global economic pressures" — the second rise since 2022, and the first time the PS5 has crossed the Rp 10 million line:

ConsoleBefore 1 May 2026From 1 May 2026Increase
PS5 Digital EditionRp 8,199,000Rp 9,999,000+Rp 1,800,000
PS5 Disc EditionRp 9,699,000Rp 11,399,000+Rp 1,700,000
PlayStation PortalRp 3,599,000Rp 5,199,000+Rp 1,600,000

The rupiah is low. Rp 18,073 to the dollar on 31 July 2026: anything imported — which is to say almost the entire tech aisle — gets dearer by the same amount, a pressure already felt across the wider cost of living on the island.

Second-hand follows. The Indonesian readings from July 2026 put the strength of the used market down to exactly that: dearer new stock. Used iPhone 15s start around Rp 9 million, and the top MacBook Air M1 listings touch the price of a new one. Put plainly, a device bought before those rises is worth more today, in rupiah, than its age alone would suggest. Anchor your price to what the thing costs new right now — never to your own receipt.

How much has it actually lost? That depends on the ecosystem

The classic mistake is to apply a flat "-20% a year" across the board. The July 2026 readings say something else entirely: Apple depreciates slowly, Android depreciates brutally.

Used deviceGoing rate (July 2026)BenchmarkGap

MacBook Air M1 13-inchRp 6–9 jt by conditionStill sold new: Rp 8,999,000–9,999,000-33% to ≈ 0%

(jt = juta, million rupiah — the shorthand every Indonesian listing uses. The gaps are orders of magnitude, worked out from published quotes, and worth recalculating at each new reading.)

Where does the split come from? Indonesian sources name remaining software support first: the Galaxy S24 and later get seven generations of Android, which will hold their value up, while earlier generations fall away fast. After that come battery condition, a fully working camera and a clean damage history. On the Apple side, used demand is being propped up by new prices that a weak rupiah has made expensive: the iPhone price list published on 4 July 2026 shows resale values still holding at 72–80% of new for an iPhone 15.

One caveat to own up to: these quotes are national (Indonesia-wide). No Bali-specific figures could be verified, and the local expat supply — constant departures, kit carried in from abroad — can create a premium or a discount of its own. Always check live listings before you lock in a price.

What is your iPhone worth, model by model?

The used prices recorded on 4 July 2026 across the Indonesian market, converted at the 31 July rate (Rp 18,073/USD):

The same source sets out the benchmark that structures every negotiation on the island: at 85% battery capacity or above it rates a handset "very good"; between 80% and 85% the phone is still acceptable, but a replacement is coming within 6 to 12 months; below 80%, its advice is simply to walk away. A seller whose device sits under that threshold should therefore expect an offer docked by the cost of a new battery. Physical condition and completeness — box and accessories — are the two other price factors it names. Put all three in the listing from the outset, with a screenshot of the battery settings page to back them up, and you cut the lowball negotiation off at the knees.

For context on earlier generations: in July 2026, a new iPhone 14 128 GB still sells for Rp 8,749,000, an iPhone 13 128 GB for Rp 8,249,000 and an iPhone 12 128 GB for Rp 6,999,000 — useful ceilings when you are selling an older model.

MacBooks, consoles and cameras: the other aisles

MacBooks. The July 2026 market is a paradox: the jump in new prices has squeezed the gap with used. The 13-inch MacBook Air M1 — which Indonesian retailers still shift new at between Rp 8,999,000 and Rp 9,999,000 — appears second-hand from around Rp 6 million on OLX, with good-condition listings climbing back to Rp 8–9 million (Medcom, 2 July 2026; Sindonews, 6 July 2026). The price factors they list: storage, physical condition, battery health and cycle count, completeness, remaining warranty, seller location. For newer models, no solid used quote could be verified at the time of writing: read the day's listings and position yourself below the current new price of the equivalent machine.

Consoles. Our sources publish no used quotes, but there is a simple benchmark: since 1 May 2026, a new PS5 Disc costs Rp 11,399,000. A console bought before the rise has mechanically gained value — so price your listing against the new tariff in force, not against the Rp 9,699,000 you handed over.

Cameras. Ballpark figures published in late January 2026 (Disway, 28 January 2026), to be taken as indicative ranges: a Canon EOS M10 with kit lens at Rp 2.6–3.5 million depending on condition, a Sony A5100 with kit at Rp 4–5.5 million. The source varies the price on condition and completeness alone — battery, charger, lenses. Add the shutter count to that list, the number of actuations on the body: any switched-on buyer will ask for it before making an offer.

What sets the price locally in Bali?

Three Indonesian rules, usually discovered too late, bear directly on resale value.

A registered IMEI — variable number one for any phone. Every handset brought in from abroad has to be registered with customs: the process is free (only the duty scale below applies, above USD 500 of value), capped at two devices per traveller, and must be done within 60 days of arrival. Miss that window and customs refuse the registration outright, leaving the device blocked — it displays "Data IMEI tidak ditemukan" and picks up no Indonesian network at all. The commercial consequence is immediate: an unregistered foreign iPhone is worth next to nothing locally, whatever its condition; conversely, the words "IMEI registered" in a listing are a price argument in themselves. The full procedure is in our Bali moving checklist.

Warranty is territorial. Samsung Indonesia spells it out: the warranty covers only products sold by PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia and used on Indonesian soil. A device bought abroad is repaired at your expense even inside its warranty period, with longer turnaround times — and, for smartphones, a service "limited to the country of first sale". Local durations: 12 months for smartphones, tablets and notebooks, 6 months for accessories, 24 months for TVs (12 months on the panel), 36 months for gaming monitors. Translated into money: a device bought locally, with the invoice to hand and the remaining warranty stated, sells for more than an imported one.

Customs sets the entry cost of imported kit. The official traveller's allowance is USD 500 FOB per person per arrival — barely more than Rp 9 million at the 31 July 2026 rate, in other words the price of a used iPhone 15. Above that, the scale published by Bea Cukai (under the PMK 34/2025 regime) applies: 10% import duty, 12% PPN calculated on an 11/12 base for non-luxury goods (11% effective) and PPh of 5% with an NPWP tax number, 10% without. The electronic e-CD declaration opens two days before arrival. As for the "40% in taxes" doing the rounds in the press: that is not an official rate, merely a rough aggregate — work it out line by line.

Leaving the island: sell here or ship it home?

The customs side of the move usually settles the argument. Whatever passport you hold, the relief that lets you bring your belongings home duty-free comes with conditions attached, and your own country's customs authority will have its own version of them. France publishes its rules in full, which makes them a useful worked example: the official Service-Public sheet F492 (last checked 19/11/2025) exempts your goods only if several conditions are met at once — residence outside the EU for at least a year, goods owned for at least six months, imported within 12 months of settling back, a detailed inventory with estimated values, dated and signed in duplicate — plus an undertaking not to sell or hire out the goods for a year after they enter France.

Two very concrete consequences follow:

  • The MacBook you bought in Bali four months ago falls outside the relief: under six months of ownership, the exemption is off the table. Selling it here before you fly is often the more rational option — all the more so with the Indonesian market of 2026 running in the seller's favour.
  • Whatever you carry home is frozen for a year. You cannot legally resell it for 12 months after entry. If the plan was "ship it back and flip it there", sell it here instead.

Coming the other way, Indonesia exempts household removal goods (barang pindahan, PMK 25/2025) for a foreigner settling in for work or study, provided those goods arrive within a window of 90 days before or after their owner — vehicles excluded. The same arithmetic applies, incidentally, to everything else that fills a villa, furniture included.

The five-step method for setting your price

1. Read today's Indonesian new price. Not what you paid back home: the current local price, at iBox (Apple's authorised reseller), Erafone (the Erajaya group's multi-brand chain) or on samsung.com/id, all of which publish in rupiah. That figure is the base for every calculation that follows, and in 2026 it moves fast — January's Mac price list was obsolete by July.

2. Apply the discount from the grid. -20% to -28% for a recent iPhone still sold new, -9% to -20% for the generation before it, ≈ -40% for a Galaxy S at around 3.5 years old, and a discount tending towards zero for a MacBook Air M1 in good condition. Use the tables above, all dated July 2026.

3. Adjust with the variables you can prove. Battery at 85% or better (screenshot it), a local purchase invoice, remaining warranty in months, complete box and accessories, a registered IMEI on a phone, cycle count on a Mac, shutter count on a camera body. Every documented item justifies the top of the range.

4. Know your floor: the trade-in. iBox's trade-in programme (the Erajaya group's "Trade In Online" app) values iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks and iMacs, with any warranty accepted — international included — as long as the device powers on. The valuation is automatic and non-negotiable, returning a code valid for seven days to redeem on ibox.co.id. One caveat: the documented process dates from 2024. It calls for Indonesian ID (a KTP), and availability in Bali could not be confirmed — check in store. The principle is what matters: the trade-in value is a floor; sell privately and you sell above it.

5. List where the ad works for you. Facebook resale groups and Facebook Marketplace Denpasar hold the island's historic supply, with no listing structure and no protection for either side. On Lokalfinds, posting a Multimedia listing with the hard numbers from step 3 — battery, warranty, IMEI, completeness — takes a few minutes and puts you straight in front of Bali's expat community. For the copy and the photos, apply the five tips for selling fast: they count double in tech, where trust is what makes the price.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I knock off an iPhone that is still sold new in Indonesia?

On the July 2026 readings, a used iPhone 15 128 GB changes hands at Rp 9–10 million against Rp 12,499,000 new, a discount of 20% to 28%. The iPhone 14 128 GB, still sold new at Rp 8,749,000, loses only 9% to 20%. Start from today's Indonesian new price — never from what you paid back home — then adjust for battery, condition and completeness.

Why does a Samsung sell for less than an iPhone?

The July 2026 figures show Android depreciating far faster: a Galaxy S22 8/256 launched at Rp 12,999,000 in March 2022 now changes hands at Rp 4,450,000, roughly -66% in four and a half years, and an S23 at Rp 5,700,000, or -40% against today's new price. Buyers put a value on remaining software support — seven generations of Android for the S24 and later — as well as battery condition and a clean damage history.

Does a phone brought in from abroad sell well in Bali?

Only if its IMEI has been registered with Indonesian customs: a free process, capped at two devices per traveller, to be completed within 60 days of arrival. After that, customs refuse the registration, the block becomes permanent and the handset shows "Data IMEI tidak ditemukan" with a local SIM in it. An unregistered phone is all but unsellable on the local market; put "IMEI registered" in your listing, because it is a price argument.

Does the iBox trade-in programme work in Bali?

The mechanics documented in 2024: the Erajaya group's "Trade In Online" app, photos of the device, verification questions, an automatic and non-negotiable valuation, and a code valid for seven days to redeem on ibox.co.id. iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks and iMacs are accepted, international warranties included, as long as the device powers on. The list of cities published at the time ran to 27, with no mention of Denpasar: availability in Bali could not be confirmed, so check in store.

What tax do I pay if I exceed the USD 500 allowance on arrival?

The official Indonesian customs scale (Bea Cukai, PMK 34/2025 regime) applies above USD 500 FOB per person per arrival: 10% import duty, 12% PPN calculated on an 11/12 base for non-luxury goods (11% effective), and PPh of 5% with an NPWP tax number or 10% without. Ignore the "40%" doing the rounds in the press: that is not the official scale. The e-CD declaration opens two days before arrival.

Should I sell my MacBook before I move back home?

Take France as the worked example: its removal relief requires you to have owned the goods for at least six months, after a minimum of one year's residence outside the EU, with import inside 12 months, an inventory signed in duplicate and a ban on reselling for a year after entry into France. A MacBook bought in Bali less than six months ago falls outside that relief — which makes selling it here before you fly the more rational option. Check your own country's customs authority for its equivalent conditions.

What pushes the price of a tech listing up?

The factors named by the July 2026 sources: battery health at 85% or above (below 80%, buying guides advise avoiding the device altogether), a local purchase invoice, remaining warranty, complete box and accessories, a registered IMEI on a phone, cycle count on a MacBook, shutter count on a camera. Put those hard numbers straight into the listing: they are what justifies a price above the going rate.
