Do I need a licence to rent a scooter in Bali?
Yes. You need a valid motorbike licence together with an International Driving Permit (IDP), or an Indonesian licence (SIM C). Police checks are frequent and insurance can refuse to cover an accident without a valid licence.
Monthly or daily rental: which should I choose?
If you are staying more than one or two weeks, monthly rental almost always beats the daily rate. For a long stay, ask for a yearly rate — many rental shops offer one.
What should I check before riding off?
Brakes, tyres, lights and horn, fuel level, and the overall condition (film the scooter at handover). Make sure the STNK (registration card) is with the bike and ask for a helmet per person — it is mandatory.
