Which documents should I check before buying a used scooter?
The STNK (registration certificate, to be kept with the bike) and the BPKB (ownership title). Check that the chassis and engine numbers match the documents, and that the yearly tax is up to date.
How does payment work?
In person, directly between buyer and seller — no transaction goes through Lokalfinds. Meet the seller in daylight, test the scooter, and never pay a deposit before seeing the bike and its documents.
Can a foreigner register a scooter in their own name?
Registration often stays under the previous owner's name; that is common practice for second-hand bikes in Bali. What matters is getting the original BPKB and a signed sales receipt (kwitansi) with a copy of the seller's ID.
